I spend a lovely few days with my family in Gloucester last weekend. Although it’s always great to make time for each other this particular weekend was even more special due to the fact that it was my grandparents 73rd wedding anniversary. What an amazing achievement, I still can’t believe it!
When I woke up on the Saturday I decided to get some fresh air so went out to explore the Gloucester Quays.
Set in a stunning waterside location the quays were brimming with life, with people heading to the outlet shopping centre and the Waterways Museum. Meanwhile others had already started to explore the many bars and restaurants that are scattered around the quays. On such a beautiful hot sunny day it was the perfect place to spend a beautiful sunny Saturday.
Whilst walking around I happened to stumble across a gorgeous antique shop called ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ located at 2 Severn Road.
My eyes immediately lit up as I walked around the shop looking at all the interesting items for sale. I was surrounded by sumptuous antique furniture and clocks, musical instruments, mirrors, prints, paintings, lighting, glass, ceramics, jewellery, coins, vintage pine and shabby chic painted furniture, to name just a few…
The shop also had a wonderful military section which was full of colour and character due to its amazing selection of historic uniforms, hats, toys and medals. I simply could not resist trying one or two hats on. So much fun!
If you fancy taking a break from shopping why not pop upstairs to Shirley’s (in house) tearoom where they serve a lovely cup of tea as well as home baked cakes and scones. It’s these special touches that make this place a real gem.
Whilst there, I had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Vic Foster, he showed me around the shop and introduced me to some of his team, David Miller and Rob Ridler. They were such a friendly and informative bunch so it was great fun getting to know them and being able to ask them all sorts of questions about their stock.
‘Upstairs Downstairs’ Antiques really is a little treasure trove, I had so much fun looking around and highly reccomend you take the time to visit this little gem yourself if you are in the area.
